Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 1-owner, 391-mile, 1990 Buick Reatta Convertible!
Buick positioned the Reatta as their halo vehicle marketing it as an upscale two-seat grand tourer project an annual volume of 20,000 units. Buick released it on the market in 1988 running through 1991 and offered initially as a coupe only followed by a convertible being offered in 1990 and 1991. Relative to Buicks aspirational 20,000 units-a-year, as a hand-built car, it was a rather successful model with 21,751 produced over three model years of which 19,314 were coupes and 2,437 were convertibles. It also has the distinction of being Buick’s only model with pop-up headlamps.
In a rather unconventional manner of a volume manufacturer such as General Motors, the Reatta was manufactured at the Reatta Craft Center by a specialized team of workers who would hand assemble the car at a series of stations rather than on a conventional assembly line. Additionally, paintwork was performed on site by PPG paint technicians. Production began in January 1988 and ended in May 1991.
The Reatta used GM’s transverse mounted 3800-series 3.8L V6 that produced 165hp for 1988-1990 and 170hp for 1991 and was mated to a 4-speed overdrive automatic transmission. It incorporated a front wheel drive system, a fully independent suspension, and 4-wheel ABS disc brakes. Its top speed was electronically limited to 125 mph and was capable of achieving 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. As a halo luxury grand tourer, the Reatta featured a host of standard equipment with just a few options available.
This 1990 Reatta convertible is finished in code 81 Bright Red over code 66 Saddle leather interior with a code 57T Saddle vinyl convertible top. It was delivered new at Berger Buick in Ionia, MI and, per the window sticker, it is equipped with $1,656 in optional equipment. The optional equipment is composed of $680 bucket seats with a power 16-way adjustable driver seat and $396 for the AM/FM stereo with CD and equalizer for an original as delivered MSRP of $36,651.
The original owner purchased it new from Berger Buick in Ionia, MI in May 1991 and it would remain in their sole possession in Quincy, MI for 31 and a half years until Hillsdale Buick in Hillsdale, MI acquired it from the original owner in January with a reported 386 miles followed by our acquisition from Hillsdale Buick in May with 387 miles. It is being offered on the original MI title issued 5/7/1991 with 187 miles reported. The original owner cherished this Reatta beautifully preserving it for over three decades driving it just 386 miles. Included is a handwritten mileage log from the original owner with mileage logged between 187 miles and 335 miles with notes about each destination including servicing at Royal Buick in Coldwater, MI.
Following our acquisition we had our trusted vendor, Plymouth Garage in Livonia, MI, perform an inspection followed by servicing the air conditioning system including a R134a retrofit and replace the failed pop-up headlight motors. We then performed an in-house paint inspection with paint depth readings, indicating original paint on all panels along with factory applied VIN stickers on the body panels, followed by performing a full body paint correction and 2-stage polishing as well as a wheels-off undercarriage detailing. Servicing under our possession totals $2,393.51.
This Reatta is offered with 391 original miles and accompanying the vehicle is one original key, a reproduction window sticker, the aforementioned handwritten mileage log, a manual showcasing the convertible top operation, and a few pieces of dealer literature from when it was new at Berger Buick. It is also still riding on its original 15″ aluminum wheels wrapped in the original Goodyear Eagle GT+4 tires with 11th week of 1990 date codes.
This is a cannot miss opportunity to acquire this preserved, 1-owner, 391-mile, ’90 Reatta convertible offered fully serviced and ready for your collection.
